Oktoberfest 2016

It is difficult for the first time visitor to the Oktoberfest to imagine the sheer scale of the event. You can be bewildered by the array of statistics available telling you everything from the amount of beer consumed to the number of pork knuckles devoured. Suffice to say that the whole event is huge in every sense, and that we at Festival Adventures would love the opportunity to introduce you its many delights.

The one simple fact to remember when choosing from our wide variety of tours and accommodation packages is that the 'average' daily attendance is around 375,000 people so there is no such thing as a 'quiet' day. That said, two factors greatly affect the attendance, and they are weather and weekends! Inclement weather will mean that everyone wishes to sit inside the Halls (do not want to 'water down' the beer after all?) and weekends, especially opening and middle weekends, are busy regardless of the weather, with what seems like an Italian invasion for the middle weekend.

With this in mind, Festival Adventures programme of tours and accommodation only packages are designed to give you the widest selection of choice, which cover the whole festival. With a variety of departure dates and duration of tours, weekend hotels, and 'you choose' policy of an arrival date of 'accommodation only' packages for camping, we offer an extensive choice to the traveller. This combined with the lowest prices on the market means Festival Adventures should be your first choice of operator.

Dachau and Andechs Monastry

Dachau, is infamous for being the site of the first Concentration Camp under the Nazi regime and was opened in 1933. Now a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust it is a stark reminder of the atrocities committed at that time, and is located just north east of Munich. Andechs Monastry, situated some 60kms south west of Munich, is renowned for its very strong beer brewed by the Monks and the huge serving of its famous 'pork knuckle'. Both are very popular 'must do' excursions and are included in our 6 and 8 Day tours at no extra cost.

The Campsite

All of our camping packages whether tours or 'accommodation only' are based at Campingplatz Thalkirchen which is just 5kms from the Festival grounds. (click here to see a map). To stay here during Oktoberfest, is an experience in its own right, and Festival Adventures will be ready and waiting to greet you on your arrival. The facilities available include many large shower blocks (1€ tokens required) laundry, mini-market, souvenir shop and a bar which has to be seen to be believed! Here you will meet thousands of your fellow travellers over the next 16 days and the atmosphere on the night before opening day is infectious. There is an underground (U-Bahn) station a short walk away along the river and the camp is also served by a local bus during Oktoberfest. This site is very well known, and popular with the young adventurous traveller, and is always busy, especially at weekends during the Festival. This however, only adds to the experience and many new friendships are forged Oktoberfestand old ones renewed over a cold Lowenbrau at the bar!
